A quarter of a century since the release of the first hip-hop album in Zamość!

Let me introduce you… a unique edition of Zamość hip-hop.

Kierunek 084 (KAZERO 84)—the group in question—was the first hip-hop act from Zamość to release an album, with a limited run of 200 copies in 2001.

What’s more, every single copy was numbered.

They wrote the lyrics themselves; the beats were produced by Olbo and Kagie, with one beat contributed by a friend of theirs.

Track 12 also features beatboxing by Gofer (now known as Czaha).

So, what was the story behind K084?

The group was formed in 2001, consisting of Olbo and Kagie.

The album cover was created on an ordinary—or extraordinary, depending on your perspective 😉—photocopier.

“The material was recorded at home without the use of professional equipment. All rights reserved.” After releasing the album, the group performed frequently, primarily as a supporting act for Polish hip-hop groups such as WWO, Paktofonika, Grammatik, and Hemp Gru at the Stara Elektrownia venue.

They remained active until 2004, after which they went their separate ways as members left to pursue university studies.

Here are a few words from Olbo:

“I have fond memories of those days; they were filled with pure enthusiasm and a passion for the burgeoning hip-hop culture in our city. We weren’t pioneers, but we certainly played our part. It wasn’t easy for us—we lacked equipment, and borrowed microphones were passed around from apartment to apartment. We recorded on personal computers at our own expense. We received great help with distribution from Ms. Teresa—known as ‘The Boss’—who owned the ‘Dibo’ skateshop; I send her my warmest greetings and thanks. A special reward for us was the opportunity to perform before legendary Polish groups.”

Back in 2002, Olbo also recorded a track titled “L.O.C.H.” with a guy from the Old Town known as B.R.A.S.

On a personal note, I remember that back in high school (2002–2005), there was a lot of talk around town about Kierunek 084 and the fact that they had released the first hip-hop album in Zamość.

Cheers, Aga
